This FAQ item explains how to include a link in your article to a file that you upload to this site. If your file is already available on the internet see Adding a weblink to an article. If the file you want to link to is not on the internet then you need to upload it to this site first. Here's how:
This process of including a link in an article to a file you upload generally takes place as part of Adding or editing a content item. To upload a file and link to it, do the following:
- Highlight the link text in your article (that is the text you want to be the link).
- Click on the Insert/Edit File

icon second from the left on the third row of icons at the top of the authoring window. This will open up a File Manager window. - To upload the desired file:
A. Select and open the appropriate folder (bottom left) in which to upload the file - this folder would normally be named for the Information Section that the article belongs to. You can create a new subfolder if you need to using the New Folder
icon (centre right).
B. Click on the Upload
icon (centre right) to bring up an additional Upload window, in which you:
- Click on the Add button to browse to the file on your computer and list it in the upload queue - you can repeat this for multiple files
- Optionally choose to set the options to define the actions in the case of finding a file of the same name as part of the upload process
- Click on the Upload button to upload the files, then the Cancel button to close this Upload window
C. Back in the File Manager window, select the file to link so that the URL appears in the URL field - you will normally be asked if you want to overwrite the highlighted text with the file name to which you would normally say no. - Once the URL field is populated, click on the Insert button to insert link to the file into the article - it will display as a link in the authoring window. Click on the Cancel button to close the Image Manager Extended window.
- If you accidentally uploaded the file to the wrong folder you can move it to the right folder by using the copy, cut and paste icons that appear in a vertical strip on the bottom right of the File Manager window when a file is selected.
